It hung in a conference room; in studying it, I developed an understanding of material choice. The slick, glossy finish complements the exposed industrial pipes and cold concrete of a typical city studio or loft.

Her drip painting was mounted behind glass to smooth over any three-dimensionality, to give a manmade product a modern, machine-like quality. The glazed look reminded me of nail polish, granite, or lacquer.
When rendered on another surface, it certainly loses its gem-like quality.
What is your favorite place to view artwork, and how does it change how you perceive it - at home, in a museum, or on a street vendor's cart?

I think it looks really cool.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that the place where you view artwork does change peoples' views of it. It's the feeling that's different. I like to look at artwork in galleries. Actually, I will be visiting The Lourve in France soon and I can't wait for the time to come!
Oh wonderful! You are so lucky - I've only been to the Louvre when I was too young to remember. I hope you have enough time to take it all in. It's a breathtaking place. x
DeleteI love this kind of painting. Looks simple and clean. Ur drawing is amazing too. M not so good duin potrait. Must practise a lot!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Esma, you are too kind - everyone can get better with practice. x
Deletethe painting looks so interesting!! the mysterious vibe you get every time you look at it. it is inspiring at the same time, that I would have drawn like what you did. I like your sketch too :)

a new post is up, hope you can check it out :)
Thank you, Czarina. x
DeleteIt's gorgeous. Your sketch of it is very good! I like to view artworks in galleries or museums - mainly because I like taking my time viewing them and the environment allows for me to relax and pace myself. I have to say I don't own many art pieces at home, not particularly keen on the idea of hanging something that only a select few people can appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteJo - I like your reasoning. I suppose it is selfish to hoard truly good art in a home. x
DeleteVery nice! I think a museum can be best, because for example when I visited the museum of Volkenkunde in Leiden they had music playing. For example a Japanese shamisen when you were walking around the Japanese area, or a blazing wind with howling wolves when you entered the North Pole/Alaska section. I think that's pretty neat. You should check out my post about the museum, I have currently posted the Terracota Soldiers! :]
ReplyDeleteI must say I have no artwork hanging at home at the moment but I'm fairly sure I will do it when I have my own place! :3
ah, I'm currently studying Terracotta Warriors; I'm assuming you visited them in a museum, and not the original archaeological site in China? x
DeleteI wish I visited them in China, but alas! The museum had 3 warriors on loan from Shaanxi I believe. You can see theme here
DeleteI love your sketch! Gosh, you're so good. I love that painting. It's beautiful!
