Clutch my heart and hope to die

Jan 5, 2013

In my haste I've forgotten one critical part of the holidays - gifts!

I'm getting too old to expect presents under the tree, but my friends and family agree to give each other meaningful things if we happen to find them. My best friend S from simpleandkitsch returned from her travels in Japan and surprised me with this beautiful silk clamshell clutch.

She told me that she had found it at a recycled kimono shop in Seto (瀬戸市), a city famous for its ceramics and pottery. What a wonderful idea for a thrift store - apparently they reuse silk from old kimonos! I give her a 10/10 for knowing my style and soft spot for tasteful vintage goods so well.

You have to love Japanese goods for their quality and design; inside the sturdy frame closure is a chain so that you can carry it two ways. And I adore the peachy-pink fabric with matte gold undertones. I find the color soft and feminine yet mature and understated.

I will surely pass this on to my children someday. Did you receive any similar treasures from the holidays?

  7. This bag is really beautiful. I am constantly buying bags thinking, "This one is it," but it never is. In this case though, it looks like something you'd treasure forever, and is definitely heirloom-worthy for your grandchildren. :)
